A note from Alain on Goblins and Growlers fundraising in 2019:

Over $1,500 raised for homeless cats in #RVA this past year!

Couldn’t be more excited to be partnered with one of the most inspiring cat rescue groups in Central Purrk, part of the community focused mission of Goblins and Growlers, and partnered with one of my favorite people in Gabriel A. Perez to be a small part of the amazing things happening here in Richmond nerd communities.

Brandon also spearheaded our giving campaign for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU through #twitch Extra Life where we are knocking on the door to almost $1,000 raised to support programs for sick children.

2020 begins a more thorough long-term partnership with one of the most amazing non-profits here in Richmond, LGBTQ+ Youth Community Builders Side by Side, through our Role_Saying_Games stream and other fundraising events we have in the works.

10 years ago, I set a goal of being part of an inclusive community and somewhere, somehow making a difference with my life.

I can truly say that through the support of my friends, family, Goblins and Growlers and niche communities who have graciously accepted me for who I am, I have found a place of belonging. I have found an inclusive community I can help build around tabletop gaming.

I have a joy for the future I have never held in my life, and I could never have found this without all of you in every capacity and role you have played in my life, especially when giving-up felt so easy.

Thank you for encouraging me to learn & grow beyond the ostracized kid I was, one who held so tightly to the words of those who bullied and discouraged him and was fueled in trying to prove detractors wrong, into the person I am today: someone who is loosening their white-knuckled grip on the past and using those same hands to build a community where I dream everyone who feels an outsider can find an inviting home.

I’ll have time to reflect more at the end of this year, but it felt so important to recognize that I still have a long way to go to become the person I want to be and create a truly inclusive space others can turn to for belonging, and also that I have come so very far from who I was and I am so grateful you all invested & believed in me.
